About this postcard

A watercolor-style view of the white frame mansion at Mount Vernon, with its red roof, dormer windows, central cupola topped by a weathervane, and the long two-story colonnaded piazza facing the lawn; a large tree frames the left side and an arched service wing is visible behind. Mount Vernon was the plantation home of George Washington, who expanded the house in the 1750s–1780s; the distinctive piazza overlooking the Potomac was among his own additions. The property is now a historic house museum and National Historic Landmark owned by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association.
