About this postcard

The east front of the Mount Vernon mansion is shown across a broad lawn, with its white clapboard siding, red roof, columned piazza, cupola and brick chimneys framed by large trees; a colonnade connects the house to the dependency buildings at right. Mount Vernon was the plantation home of George Washington overlooking the Potomac River in Fairfax County, Virginia. The present house, largely rebuilt by Washington from 1758 onward, was saved and restored by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association beginning in 1858 and is today a historic house museum.
