Mozart portrait with Salzburg and Hohensalzburg, Austria, 1907

About this postcard

An oval portrait bust of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart sits at right within an ornate frame, facing a vignette of Salzburg and the Hohensalzburg fortress at left. Above them, winged cherubs play a cello, violin, tambourine, and triangle beneath a rising sun, while another cherub crowns the frame with flowers. The printed caption names the Mozart-Gemeinde Salzburg, a Mozart society in the composer's birthplace. Mozart was born in Salzburg in 1756, and the Hohensalzburg citadel still overlooks the old town shown in the vignette. The 150th anniversary of his birth fell in 1906, when Salzburg's Mozart societies and souvenir publishers were producing commemorative imagery of the composer.
