About this postcard
The view looks across Summit Lake toward Mount Evans, the 14,260-foot peak named in the caption. A bare, brown ridge rises behind the water, with snow still lodged in its gullies and a band of dark green scrub and timber along the lower slopes. The lake fills the lower half of the frame and carries the mountain's reflection. Mount Evans stands in the Front Range west of Denver, and Summit Lake sits in a high alpine basin just below the summit. The scene shows the kind of high-country view that drew visitors and postcard photographers to Colorado's mountains in the mid-twentieth century.
