A snow-patched Mt. Tallac rises behind a dense stand of evergreens, with wildflowers and low green growth in the foreground. The peak, 9,875 feet at the southern end of Lake Tahoe, was a conspicuous landmark in the region; its lingering snowfield forms the "cross of snow" that gives the mountain a recognizable profile. The surrounding slopes support a variety of wildflowers that color the forest floor.
