About this postcard
A view across Diamond Lake toward the sharp summit spire of Mount Thielsen, framed by tall pines and a fallen log in the foreground, with low buildings and boats along the far shore. The lake sits just north of Crater Lake in the Umpqua National Forest, and the cabins and moored boats mark its long use as a Cascade recreation stop. Mount Thielsen is the eroded core of an ancient shield volcano. Its jagged pinnacle, sometimes called the "Lightning Rod of the Cascades" for the strikes it draws, rises above the forested shore that made the lake a standard stop on southern Oregon travel routes.
