About this postcard
Four views of Eger, Bohemia: the town seen from the Steinbruch, the Kaiserburg, the Marktplatz, and the Stadthaus, with a large fountain figure labeled "Röhrkastenwastel." Eger, now Cheb in the Czech Republic, was then an Austro-Hungarian town; the Kaiserburg was its medieval castle, and the Marktplatz and Stadthaus formed the civic center. The sender's return address places him with a Landwehr replacement company in Eger, early in the First World War. The German captions and Czech message reflect the mixed population of Bohemia.
