About this postcard
An elevated view of downtown St. Augustine centers on the Municipal Lightner Museum of Hobbies in the former Alcazar Hotel. The Spanish Renaissance-style building fills much of the frame with red tile roofs, ivy-covered walls, and twin towers rising above palms and neighboring rooftops. Water and a low shoreline appear in the distance, and 1950s cars line the street below. The museum, opposite the Ponce de Leon Hotel, held Otto Lightner's wide-ranging collections in a Gilded Age resort built by Henry Flagler. By the early 1960s the former hotel had become a city-run showcase for hobbies and curiosities.
