The National Home of the Elks stands on a grassy rise, a long stone building with a tall round tower, open arcade, conical roof, and a range of dormered roofs and chimneys. An arcaded gallery runs along the ground floor. The caption places the home in Lynchburg, Virginia, where the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks cared for aged and indigent members. The rough-cut stonework, turret, and arched veranda reflect the Romanesque Revival style common to fraternal and charitable institutions of the period.
White border along the bottom carrying the printed caption; light foxing/spotting across the sky area; black-and-white halftone reproduction of a photograph.
No postmark. Undivided back ("THIS SIDE IS FOR THE ADDRESS ONLY"), pre-1907 style; white border on front; matte/other texture; publisher imprint No. 686, The American News Company, New York / Leipzig-Berlin. No handwriting, no damage beyond light foxing.
