About this postcard

The Natural Bridge spans Cedar Creek in Rockbridge County, Virginia, a limestone arch about 215 feet high rising from a wooded gorge. Trees frame the opening, and a path with a railing follows the stream in the foreground. Thomas Jefferson purchased the site in 1774, and it remained a noted Virginia landmark and tourist stop. A visitor wrote that it was "worth seeing, very beautiful" and described seeing the bridge from underneath.
