About this postcard

A night view of the brightly lit Nautical Garden at Revere Beach, its arched facade outlined in lights and signs reading "NAUTICAL GARDEN" and "PERGOLA." A dense crowd of promenaders fills the street below under a full moon and cloudy sky. The Nautical Garden was one of the seafront attractions at Revere Beach, the resort laid out in 1896 and generally credited as the first public beach in the United States. By the early 1900s its shore was lined with pavilions, chutes, and amusement halls that drew summer crowds from Boston and nearby towns.
