Nazca pottery vessels, Peru

About this postcard

Two views of painted Nazca ceramic vessels from Peru: at left a shallow bowl with a band of interlocking stepped, hook-like motifs and small eye forms; at right a flaring beaker painted with a dark figure panel and a small rectangular cartouche. The card labels them simply "Nazca Pottery, Peru." The Nazca culture flourished on the south coast of Peru roughly between 100 BC and 800 AD, and its polychrome ceramics — decorated with trophy heads, mythical beings, and geometric interlocking patterns — are among the best known artifacts of Andean archaeology.
