About this postcard
A dirt path winds through a stand of tall pines, sunlight falling in patches on the ground while the far end of the grove fades into shadow. The view is generic Pacific Northwest woodland, the sort of scenery card that travelers and locals sent as a reminder of the region's forests. Bellingham in 1910 was a lumber and coal town on Puget Sound, its mills fed by the dense conifer stands of Whatcom County. The card was mailed to a rural free delivery address in Mount Vernon, roughly thirty miles south through the Skagit Valley, a reminder of how rural households depended on the post for everyday correspondence.
