About this postcard
Across the Potomac Park Basin, the white Bureau of Printing and Engraving fills the middle distance, with the Washington Monument rising at the left against a sunset sky and young trees along the near shore. The printed caption calls it the new Bureau of Printing and Engraving and describes a Treasury branch that employed about 4,000 people and turned out six to seven million dollars a day in gold and silver certificates, national bank notes, postage and Internal Revenue stamps, checks, bonds, and other government securities. The name is printed in reverse; the agency is the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. The building had opened in 1914, and the Washington Monument, finished in 1884, anchors the view at left.
