About this postcard
The New City Hall in Richmond, Virginia, viewed across its lawn: a heavy stone Gothic Revival building with steep red roofs and a tall central clock tower rising above the trees. A few pedestrians cross the grounds and a horse-drawn carriage waits near the entrance. Finished in 1894 to designs by architect Elijah E. Myers, the building was barely a decade old when this card was mailed, and its clock tower already served as a landmark for the surrounding city. The sender, John, used the back for a short New Year's greeting to a friend in West Virginia, reporting that all was well except for one S. Altman, who was sick.
