About this postcard
A color view of the New General Post Office in New York, its long Corinthian colonnade and stepped entrance facing Eighth Avenue. Pedestrians, early automobiles, and a streetcar pass in front, and two American flags fly from the roofline. The caption places the building between 31st and 32nd Streets and dates its completion to 1913; it was built over the tracks and yards of Pennsylvania Station at a cost of $6,200,000. Mail moved from first-floor assorting rooms through chutes to cars waiting on the basement track. The McKim, Mead & White building later became known as the James A. Farley Post Office.
