About this postcard
The picture shows a large multi-story brick school building with a mansard roof, round dormer windows, and an arched entrance, captioned by the card as the "New High School" of Hannibal, Missouri, built at a cost of $80,000. Hannibal is the Mississippi River town best known as the boyhood home of Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), whose childhood there shaped the settings of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. The card was issued by a local souvenir publisher and annotated with a March 1906 date, placing the new school in the first decade of the twentieth century.
