A tall granite obelisk crowned by a bronze figure of a Continental soldier stands on a stepped base among trees, captioned "New Jersey Monument, Valley Forge, Pa." Valley Forge, in southeastern Pennsylvania, was the site of the Continental Army's winter encampment of 1777–78 under George Washington, and the state monuments erected there in the early 20th century commemorate the troops who endured that winter. The shaft carries a relief band and a dark inscription panel above its base.

Postmark: none. Divided back; white border; C.T. American Art Colored; published by D.J. Voorhees, Valley Forge, PA.
