About this postcard
A bird's-eye view looks down on a curving two-lane highway cut into the wooded slope beside a broad stretch of the Delaware River. Steep forested mountains rise on both sides, with a sunset glow in the notch between the ridges. The road is labeled the New State Highway at Delaware Water Gap, where the Delaware cuts between the Poconos and Kittatinny Ridge. By the 1930s the Gap was a long-established resort and touring destination, and the new riverside road carried motorists through the notch. The sender's note reports very high mountains and a Tuesday visit, a typical quick message from a family trip.
