About this postcard
The card shows the new United States Post Office and Federal Building at Wichita Falls, Texas — a long, flat-roofed limestone-faced structure in a stripped classical style, with a tall column of windows over the main entrance, an American flag flying from the roof, and a lawn and drive in the foreground. The facade is inscribed "United States Post Office and Court House," reflecting the combined postal and federal judicial functions typical of Depression-era federal construction. Wichita Falls, seat of Wichita County in north Texas, grew rapidly as an oil and agricultural center in the early twentieth century, and this building replaced an earlier federal post office downtown.
