About this postcard
A color view of the vast New West Baden Springs Hotel, its yellow-brick wings and great domed central pavilion rising above formal gardens with paths, beds and shrubs, backed by a wooded hillside. The caption calls it the "Carlsbad of America," a nod to the mineral springs that made West Baden a fashionable health resort. The hotel shown is the second on the site, rebuilt after the 1902 fire and famed for its 200-foot domed atrium, then the largest free-spanning dome in the world; it closed in 1929 and later served as a Jesuit seminary before reopening as a resort.
