New Year Greeting, floral design, Rural Retreat, VA, 1926

Card type
Lithograph

About this postcard

The design frames a printed New Year greeting and a short verse in script with a floral border of red berries, green and pink leaves, and a curving vine. The handwritten note thanks the recipients for presents and asks them to visit "When School closes," closing with a wish for a happy New Year and the initials O.W.S. The note traveled from Rural Retreat to the Overstreet sisters at Trigg, mixing holiday greetings with ordinary family news. New Year postcards were a common early twentieth-century way to send good wishes and a few lines of personal news.
