Two winged cherubs frame a large clock face with Roman numerals. One sits on the dial holding a glass, the other leans out from the side blowing a golden trumpet. Bare winter branches and snow surround the clock, and the printed greeting below reads 'A Happy New Year.' The cherubs and clock are allegorical: the trumpet announces the new year while the clock marks the passing of the old. Early twentieth-century New Year cards often used such figures to combine celebration with a reminder of time's passage.
Undivided-back era greeting card; heavy staining/glue residue along left side and lower area; handwritten message on front.
Postmark: PRINCE FREDERICK JAN 14 1907 MD. (second, fainter receiving circle reads DURBIN W. VA.). Undivided back ('THIS SIDE FOR THE ADDRESS ONLY'), 'SERIE 205' imprint and eagle/shield emblem at left. Light soiling, edge wear and a crease at the upper-left corner; small pencil '113 / 6.60' at top.
