About this postcard

An ornate New Year's greeting card reading "Jan. 1" and "A HAPPY NEW YEAR" in decorative Art Nouveau lettering, with a small framed vignette below showing a snow-covered gabled house at sunset and a lone figure rowing a small boat on dark water in the foreground. Cards of this style, with heavy ornamented lettering and an inset scenic panel, were standard American and German-printed holiday greetings of the early 1900s, when New Year's Day cards were sent as widely as Christmas cards.
