A snow-covered house with lit windows stands under a starry green sky, a dark evergreen beside it and holly framing the scene. The printed verse, “The Whole Year Through,” calls for midnight bells to ring sweetly and merrily in the recipient’s heart all year. The card was mailed in Walton, NY, on Christmas Eve, and its only message is “Guess who?” Holly and midnight bells were familiar New Year’s motifs, tying the Christmas season to the turn of the year.
Linen texture; holly border at top and bottom; light staining on left panel; small loss at top right corner.
Postmark: WALTON DEC 24 12:M N.Y. (no year in cancel). Divided-back linen-era card with 1-cent green Washington stamp; CPC "The Mark of Distinction" publisher monogram; light corner/edge wear, faint foxing on back.
