About this postcard

A view looking down New York Avenue in Westfield, New Jersey, with a white church and slender steeple standing at the left, frame houses with porches lining the right side, and bare autumn trees arching over an unpaved dirt road. Westfield was a railroad suburb of roughly a few thousand residents in this era, its tree-lined avenues and church spires typical of a prosperous Union County commuter town. The tinted coloring and red caption lettering are characteristic of color lithograph postcards of the 1905-1915 period.
