About this postcard

The New York State Capitol fills the frame, a massive Romanesque Revival pile of light granite with two steep red-tiled pavilions, rows of arched windows, tall chimneys and a flag on the roof; bare trees and a lawn occupy the foreground, with a street and small figures at the right. Built between 1867 and 1899 to designs by Thomas Fuller, Leopold Eidlitz and H. H. Richardson, the building is famed for its unsupported grand staircase and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1979. The card's own caption names it simply as the State Capitol at Albany, N.Y.
