About this postcard

A busy view down Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis, with crowds on the sidewalks, horse-drawn carriages and a few early automobiles in the street, and multi-story commercial blocks lining both sides under awnings and signs. Nicollet Avenue was Minneapolis's principal retail and office street in the early 20th century, and the mix of horses and motorcars dates the scene to roughly 1905-1915. The tall building at right center is typical of the commercial loft blocks that replaced earlier storefronts during the city's downtown building boom.
