About this postcard

A night-blooming cereus opens a cluster of large, pale, yellow-centered blossoms at the top of long, ribbed green stems, with fan-shaped palm fronds filling the dark background behind it. The flowers belong to the group of night-flowering cacti whose blooms open after dusk and wilt by the following day, which is what made a photograph of one in full flower worth printing. El Paso publishers such as Sandoval News Co. served tourists and mail-order customers with views of the Southwest and its desert and tropical plants, and a specimen caught at the brief moment of bloom fit that trade well.
