About this postcard
A moonlit night view of Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's domed neoclassical house, its windows glowing warmly against dark trees and a moon in a blue, cloud-streaked sky. Jefferson designed the house himself, beginning in 1768 and remodelling it in the 1790s after his years in France, and it stands on a hilltop near Charlottesville, Virginia. The card's night-time rendering, with the illuminated portico and dome, was a popular novelty treatment for this historic shrine.
