Noon Hour, Waltham Watch Factory, Waltham, MA, circa 1907

About this postcard

At the noon break, a crowd of workers, mostly women in long dresses and hats, fills the foreground in front of the Waltham Watch Factory. The large red brick works rises behind them, with a central clock tower and spires framed by trees. The Waltham Watch Company was among the best-known American watchmakers by the early 1900s, and its Waltham, Massachusetts, plant was a major local employer. The crowd suggests the size of the workforce at a factory that helped make the city a watchmaking center.
