The photograph shows Norfork Dam from a grassy bank, with a long concrete wall, a row of arched spillway bays, and an intake tower holding back the reservoir. The dam sits in the wooded hills of the Arkansas Ozarks, where the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built it in the 1940s for flood control and hydroelectric power. By the 1950s the lake had become a recreation destination, and the sender of this card wrote home to Michigan about the beautiful country and friendly people.
