About this postcard
A tinted view along the north side of the public square in Garnett, Kansas, showing a row of two- and three-story brick commercial blocks with shaded wooden awnings over the sidewalks. The Fourth Avenue Hotel occupies the tall block at left, with a jeweler and optician's sign below; farther along a large painted wall sign advertises the M. J. Wassmer harness shop and Owl Cigar, and horse-drawn wagons stand at the curb. Garnett, the seat of Anderson County in eastern Kansas, was laid out in 1857 and grew as a railroad and courthouse town; its square was lined with such masonry storefronts in the early 1900s.
