About this postcard

A view down North Street in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, looking south, with a trolley car halted mid-street, horse-drawn wagons and carriages at the curbs, and pedestrians on the sidewalks. Multi-story brick and stone commercial blocks line both sides, their storefronts shaded by striped awnings, while tall wooden utility poles and a web of overhead wires dominate the foreground. Pittsfield, the seat of Berkshire County, was a thriving mill and commercial town in this era, and its downtown streets were served by electric trolleys in the first decades of the twentieth century.
