About this postcard

A view across a mown field bounded by a low stone wall, with scattered orchard trees and a dark spruce wood. Beyond the trees stands a large light-colored house with a hipped roof, and beyond that the sheltered water of North West Harbor with low hills on the far shore. North West Harbor is one of the small fishing and summer-resort settlements on Deer Isle, off the Maine coast in Penobscot Bay, an area long known for its granite quarries, lobster fishing, and summer colonies. A note from Uncle Lawrence urges a young girl to have her mother bring her down because there are "lots of nice little girls" there, a bit of the summer colony's social life.
