A tall cylindrical tower of rough fieldstone rises among trees under a blue sky, with a small figure at the top and an arched opening at its base. A low stone wall runs nearby. The tower was built in 1889 by chemist Eben Norton Horsford to mark the site he believed was the Norse settlement of Norumbega, a theory later archaeology did not support. The caption places it in Waltham; the tower stands by the Charles River in neighboring Weston.
