About this postcard

Nuttings on the Charles was a roadhouse beside the Charles River in Waltham, Massachusetts. The long, low building has a green-and-white facade, a dark hipped roof, and a two-story corner pavilion flying an American flag. Open touring cars and pedestrians in period dress fill the roadway in front, placing the scene in the early automobile age, when riverside roadhouses around Boston drew motorists and day-trippers.
