Oak Cliff Viaduct and skyline by night, Dallas, TX, 1939

About this postcard

Night view looking along the Oak Cliff Viaduct toward downtown Dallas, with rows of street lamps glowing above the multi-lane roadway and traffic. The illuminated skyline rises under a full moon and streaked clouds. On the right, the Magnolia Building is marked by its Flying Red Horse sign, the red neon Pegasus that served as a beacon for miles around. The viaduct carried traffic across the Trinity River between Oak Cliff and the central city, and by the late 1930s the Magnolia Petroleum Company's rooftop horse was one of Dallas's best-known night sights.
