About this postcard
Night view of Ocean View Park in Norfolk, Virginia, with a full moon over the surf, bathers along the beach, and a crowd strolling the illuminated boardwalk past a Ferris wheel and the frame of a roller coaster. Ocean View was developed in the 1850s as a resort suburb of Norfolk on the Chesapeake Bay, reached by a street railway, and its amusement park, pavilion and boardwalk drew summer crowds into the mid-20th century. The park was largely destroyed by a hurricane and fire in the 1950s and the site later became a city park.
