Odd Moments — young woman in white gloves with a rose and a kitten, circa 1905

About this postcard
A tinted lithograph shows a young Edwardian woman in profile, her hair swept up in a soft pompadour, wearing an off-shoulder white gown with a jeweled band on the sleeve and long white gloves; she holds a pink rose while a small fluffy kitten with a blue bow plays at the lower left. The card is titled "Odd Moments" and was issued by the New York firm Reinthal & Newman under copyright from Charles Scribner's Sons, a common arrangement for early-1900s art reproductions sold as postcards. Such idealized, gently sentimental female figures were a staple of the undivided-back era, when the picture side carried only the publisher's imprint and the message had to go on the back.
