About this postcard

The painting shows four boys outdoors in a wooded landscape. From left to right they are John Ridgely of Hampton, Julian Leroy White, Henry White, and Charles Ridgely. One boy in a checkered dress holds a fishing pole with a small fish; another holds a black dog; a third holds a toy sailboat; the fourth sits beside a large brown dog. A building with a spire rises in the distant background. John Carlin painted the group in 1856. Hampton was the Ridgely family's estate north of Baltimore, now preserved as Hampton National Historic Site.
