About this postcard

The card shows a tall wooden oil derrick throwing a massive black plume of oil, captioned "Shooting of the Discovery Well, Oklahoma City, Okla." and "Oklahoma City's First Gusher." The Oklahoma City oil field was discovered in 1928 and became a major petroleum field; spectacular gushers were iconic images of the era. A storage tank and piping stand at the left, with a sunset sky behind the well.
