About this postcard
A corner view of the Old Absinthe House, a two-story stucco building with arched ground-floor openings and green shutters, a cast-iron balcony with green-shuttered French doors above, and neighboring red and cream buildings along a quiet street corner. The building is dated to 1798, and local tradition holds that Jean Lafitte, the privateer sometimes called the "patriot-pirate," once used it as headquarters. The caption also recalls the French Quarter's old association with absinthe, when French residents gathered there to drink it.
