Old Central House hotel, Waltham, MA, circa 1907

About this postcard

A sepia-toned view of the Old Central House in Waltham, Massachusetts, a large colonial-style hotel with a two-story veranda, dormer windows, and mature shade trees. A figure stands on the lawn near the entrance, and a MacGregor Garage sign appears at the right. The printed caption dates the house to 1798 and says General Banks was entertained there while Speaker of the House at Washington and later as governor of Massachusetts. By 1901, J. A. McTernan had acquired the hotel and renovated it with new baths, electric lights, and steam heat while keeping its colonial look. A handwritten note places the site at the Waltham Public Library by 1914.
