About this postcard

A small stone church with a red wooden belfry and slender spire stands on bare, ledge-rock ground with patches of grass, the sea horizon faint behind it. The card names it as the Old Church at Star Island in the Isles of Shoals, the cluster of rocky islands off the New Hampshire–Maine coast. The stone chapel on Star Island is traditionally dated to about 1800, when it was raised by island resident Samuel Haley, and it survives as one of the oldest buildings in the Shoals, later associated with the summer conferences held on the island.
