About this postcard
A low stone dam spans Valley Creek, with water spilling over the crest in a thin white curtain into a broad pool below. A stone arch or culvert opening sits in the left abutment, and a grassy bank rises behind the dam into dense woods, some of it in autumn color. The dam is one of the original dams on Valley Creek, restored below the ruins of the old forge that gave Valley Forge its name. The surrounding ground is now part of Valley Forge National Historical Park, which preserves the site of the Continental Army's 1777-78 winter encampment.
