About this postcard
The picture shows a story-and-a-half stone house with a gambrel roof and central brick chimney, set among large shade trees beside a pond or small lake, with a dirt lane leading up to it; the caption calls it "Old Homestead." The scene reflects the early-20th-century taste for nostalgic homestead views, and the sender's note, "Home Sweet home with very best wishes," treats it as an emblem of domestic comfort. The card carries a 1906 American Journal-Examiner copyright line and was distributed as a compliments card of Hearst's Boston Sunday American.
