The card reproduces two black-and-white views: the Old Indian House in Deerfield, Massachusetts, with a large tree before it, and a close-up of its door, which the printed caption describes as "gashed by savages" on February 29, 1703-4. The house was a survivor of the 1704 Raid on Deerfield, and although it was demolished in the 19th century, the door was preserved as a relic. The handwritten note adds that the sender visited Deerfield, saw the door, and found that the house was gone.
