About this postcard

Flat-roofed, multi-storied adobe buildings of Old Laguna Indian Pueblo rise from a low rocky mesa, with scrub, sand, fenced enclosures, and wagons spread across the foreground under a pale turquoise sky. The printed caption identifies the village as Laguna Pueblo, New Mexico, on the old Santa Fe Trail highway between Albuquerque and Gallup, and describes its people as a branch of the Acoma tribe, whose mesa home is near Enchanted Mesa. Laguna is a Keresan-speaking pueblo west of Albuquerque, founded around 1699 by people with ties to Acoma and other pueblos; its stepped stone-and-adobe rooms are characteristic of the Pueblo villages of New Mexico.
