About this postcard
The card shows the castle-like main building of the Eastern Illinois State Normal School at Charleston, Illinois โ a long brick range with a tall central tower, corner turrets and crenellated parapets, set behind a curving drive and lawn. The school was founded in 1895 as a state normal school for training teachers and later grew into Eastern Illinois University. Its towered 'Old Main' was the campus's defining structure in the early 20th century before the institution expanded into a modern university campus.
